"This piece is my response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade. I’m disappointed in my country and how leaders are manipulated by religion and their own beliefs instead of seeing the good in all people. I feel like a commodity and that, based on my gender, others interpret the goals I need to have in my life (be married, have children, stay at home, not have a career of my own - motherly obligations). I've been researching women’s rights and the concept of feminism, and how my upbringing has impacted my beliefs and how my beliefs may be different from others - expectations from others, catholicism, women's roles in the household. I want this piece to show how a part of our [uterus having people] bodies can stir up so much hate. I want to illustrate the preciousness yet sameness our bodies hold, and how money/lobbying/personal gain impacts our rights. Our bodies are not our own."
